Procedure

Step 1: Trim the Top Panel

Take the top panel and measure 8 inches (width) from either end and make marks. Then measure 4 inches (height) from the bottom of the panel. Cut out triangular chunks on either side as shown below.

Step 2: Zipper

Take the main body panel and lay it on your work table with the right side up. Place the zipper along one short edge with the wrong side up. Pin the zipper to the panel and use the zipper foot to sew along the length of the laminate. Repeat the same for the other short edge.

Step 3: Loop

For the elastic loop, fold the strap of quilting cotton in half with the right sides together. Secure both ends using a scant ¼ inch backstitch seam then turn inside out and press. Use a safety pin to guide the elastic through the loop and secure both ends with stitches.

Step 4: Bottom panel

With the right sides together stitch around the sides and bottom of the panel but leave the top open. Clip the corners and turn inside out.

Step 5: The Body

Pin the pieces of the main body with the right sides together and the zipper partially closed. Sew the pieces together with a 5/8 inch seam allowance then turn the right side out.

Proceed to finger press the seam towards the bottom of the garment bag.

Step 6: Top panel

Repeat the same steps as above for the top panel. Finger press the seam towards the top of the garment bag.
