Time To Complete: 45 Minutes
Difficulty: Beginner
There are numerous ready options in the market, but nothing makes a better fashion statement than sewing one yourself, and this little guide has just the cell phone purse pattern for you.
What You Will Need to DIY Your Own Cell Phone Purse Pattern
- A Keychain clasp
- Some fabric
- Some fusible fleece
Step 1: Measuring the Fabric
This cell phone purse is designed to fit an iPhone 5S. If you have a different phone, worry not. All you need is a tape measure and a pair of scissors.
For the front and back panels of the phone cover, cut the fabric, so it’s twice as wide as your phone with an allowance of 2-3 inches.
The length of the fabric should be about 14 inches. To get the right length for your phone, measure the length of your phone then leave an allowance of several inches.
Cut fusible fleece of the same size as the back fabric. Iron the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the back fabric but not the front panel.
Step 2: Stitching
Fold the fabric lengthwise with the wrong side. This should halve the width with the length remaining the same.
Stitch across one of the short sides, then down the long side leaving one of the short sides open. Turn the purse right side out and iron it flat.
Step 3: Cut to Size
You want your cell phone purse to fit your phone snugly. Take the phone and insert it into the purse to see how far it goes. Make a mark and cut off the extra length, if any.
Fold the unsewn edge inward and stitch the edges.

Step 4: Finishing Touches
Fold the edge you have just sewn to fit your phone. The phone should have a few inches pop out of the top to make it easier to remove.

Step 5: The Strap
For the strap, you can take a bit of leftover fabric. You only need about 4 by 2 inches wide of fabric. Fold it in half (lengthwise) on the wrong side and sew the sides together. Turn it right side out and press it.
Fold it in half to form a loop and insert the clasp through it and sew it in place. Then sew the strap to the top side of the back panel of your cell phone purse.

Just like that, you have a new simple, convenient, and effective cell phone purse.
